Marine vessel image acquisition can impact ship detection and tracking such as recognition of suspicious behavior/potential threats or detailed information on ship characteristics. The capabilities of data transmission can be vital in every aspect. This project provided a marine image acquisition server for military purposes, which required the use of high-speed display cards and 10GbE interface.
Application Requirements
The customer needed a fast project turnaround and a customized design to fit a compact mechanical space. They needed a server-grade level processor for high processing of acquired imagery data and near-real-time information delivery. It had to support 10 GbE Ethernet interface, the newest PCIex16 GTX 1180 display solution, and have a water-preventive chassis with good heat dissipation properties.

Project Implementation
The modularized features of COM Express satisfied the customer’s fast-to-market demand and the flexibility for updating to the latest CPU platforms. Advantech’s SOM-5992 incorporates an Intel Xeon processor which met all processing and imaging needs. SOM-5992 provides a PCIe x16 slot for high-speed display card expansion, as well as 2 x 10 GbE Ethernet interface. It is also a highly efficient thermal solution.
